Baydal tablet: Uses, Side Effects, and Precautions

General Overview:

Baydal tablet is used for patients suffering from allergic reactions such as itching, sneezing, watery eyes, dermatitis, and many more. It is a second-generation antihistamine medication which is a derivative of Piperazine. It falls in the category of drugs known as selective peripheral H1 receptor antagonists. This medication has also many side effects, and precautions should be taken before taking this tablet. Keep in mind this medication is not preferred for serious allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis.

Tablet Form:

  • It is available in 5mg to 10mg doses. It is taken through the mouth with a glass of water.

Syrup Form:

  • It is also available in liquid form. Those who can’t swallow tablets prefer syrup, especially children.

How it works?

Mechanism:

Baydal tablet contains Cetirizine hydrochloride, which is an antihistamine. It reduces the impact of histamines produced by cells in the body known as mast cells. These chemicals are responsible for allergic symptoms.

Common side effects:

  • Dizziness
  • Sore throat
  • Dystonic reaction: abnormal postures or movements that are caused by sudden and involuntary muscle contraction,
  • Abdominal pain
  • Fatigue
  • Skin irritation
  • Coughing

Rare side effects:

  • Tachycardia(fast heartbeats)
  • Weight increase
  • Abnormal liver function
  • Depression

Precautions:

  • Tell your doctor if you are allergic to cetirizine, or hydroxyzine. Baydal tablet may contain inactive ingredients which can cause some allergic reactions.
  • Not recommended for children under 6 years.
  • Inform your doctor if you are pregnant.
  • Inform your doctor if you are in a breastfeeding era.
  • It can cause drowsiness so drive cautiously or avoid driving.
  • If you are suffering from kidney problems, inform your doctor.
  • It may interact with other medications, So inform your doctor about the medications you are already taking or the history of your medications.

In Case of Overdose:

Inform your doctor if you have taken more than the prescribed dosage.

  • Abnormal rapid heart rate

Missed Dose:

In the case of a missed dose, don’t double the dose to cover the forgotten one.

  • Store it in a cool and dry place.
  • Store between 20 degrees Celsius to 25 degrees Celsius
  • Keep it away from heat.
