Itraneu Capsule (Itraconazole): Uses and Side Effects

Itraneu capsule is an azole antifungal that treats fungal infections. In this article, you will learn how it works, its side effects, and the precautions to follow.

Ingredients

Each capsule contains itraconazole.

Dosage

Follow your doctor’s advice about the dose and how long to take it. Fungal infections often need weeks of treatment.

How Does Itraneu Capsule Work?

Itraconazole blocks the fungus from making ergosterol, a substance that fungal cell walls need. Without it, the fungus cannot grow, and your body clears the infection.

Uses of Itraneu Capsule

  • Aspergillosis, a lung infection caused by Aspergillus mold
  • Blastomycosis, a fungal infection that mainly affects the lungs and skin
  • Candidiasis, such as thrush in the mouth or throat
  • Histoplasmosis, a lung infection caused by Histoplasma capsulatum
  • Fungal infections of the nails and skin, such as ringworm

Side Effects of Itraneu Capsule

  • Nausea and stomach pain
  • Headache and dizziness
  • Diarrhea or constipation
  • Rash
  • Rare but serious: liver problems, heart failure, and nerve damage

Precautions

  • Take the capsule right after a full meal so your body absorbs it well.
  • Wait at least two hours after taking antacids.
  • Do not use it if you have heart failure.
  • Tell your doctor if you have liver disease or kidney disease.
  • Do not use it during pregnancy unless your doctor says it is essential.
  • It interacts with many medicines, including some cholesterol medicines, so tell your doctor everything you take.
  • Call your doctor if you notice yellow skin or eyes, dark urine, or swelling of the legs.

Overdose and Missed Dose

If you take more than the prescribed dose, call your doctor or go to the nearest hospital, because an overdose can cause serious problems.

If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take a double dose to make up for it.

Storage Instructions

  • Keep it away from children.
  • Keep it away from direct sunlight.
  • Store it in a cool, dry place.
