How Does Maxflow Work?
Tamsulosin blocks alpha-1 receptors in the prostate and the bladder neck. These receptors tell the muscles to tighten. When they are blocked, the muscles relax, urine flows more easily, and BPH symptoms improve.
Uses of Maxflow
- Weak urine stream
- Benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH)
- Blocked or slow urine flow
- Pain and discomfort in the urinary bladder
- Passing small kidney stones (doctors sometimes prescribe it for this)
Dosage
Take it exactly as your doctor prescribes. Doctors usually advise taking it once a day, about 30 minutes after the same meal each day. Swallow the capsule whole. Do not crush, chew, or open it.
Side Effects of Maxflow
Common Side Effects
- Dizziness: Tamsulosin can lower blood pressure.
- Abnormal ejaculation: Some men have dry orgasm (retrograde ejaculation).
- Headache: It is usually mild and short-lived.
- Stuffy nose: The medicine affects blood vessels in the nose.
- Orthostatic hypotension: You may feel dizzy when you stand up quickly because your blood pressure drops suddenly.
Serious Side Effects
See a doctor right away if you faint, have a painful erection that lasts for hours, or develop swelling, a rash, or trouble breathing.
Precautions
- Allergies: Do not use it if you are allergic to tamsulosin or any of its ingredients.
- Blood pressure: Be careful if you have low blood pressure, because this medicine can lower it further. Stand up slowly.
- Cataract surgery: Tell your eye surgeon that you take tamsulosin before the operation. It can cause a problem called floppy iris syndrome.
- Other medicines: Medicines for erectile dysfunction and for high blood pressure can lower your blood pressure even more, so tell your doctor about everything you take.
- Driving: Do not drive or use machines until you know how the medicine affects you.
- Who should not use it: This medicine is for men. Doctors do not use it for women or children.
Overdose and Missed Dose
If you take more than the prescribed dose, call your doctor or go to the nearest hospital, because an overdose can cause serious problems.
If you miss a dose, take it as soon as you remember. If it is almost time for your next dose, skip the missed one. Never take a double dose to make up for it.
Storage Instructions
- Keep the medicine away from children.
- Keep it away from direct sunlight.
- Store it in a cool, dry place.
